Thinking outside the box here. The only thing I could find was some testimonials in New Zealand concerning it but was thinking what if???

I haven't, I thought about it but then sold the horse. My old boss came for coffee today and he said at the veterinary seminar in Vegas last week he sat in on a lecture about head shaking and the speaker was saying they are starting to relate it to the trigrminal nerve. Any way he said it was interesting.  Probably doesn't answer your question. Sorry.

I would think that the ION patch could help if properly placed.

Is the ION patch a different patch or is that one of the LiveWave patches, the white or the tan? And yes, my vet believes it is her transgeminal (sp) nerve that is affected. The other day was a better day for her, we've had her on the high Mag for about a month and been keeping a UV mask on her. I was able to ride her at the walk and jog comfortably but when I asked for the lope the head bobbing and sneezing started and for the first time I was really aware of how much more "breeze" there is even on a calm day when you ask a big horse to lope.

run n rate - I have tried to find something to offer my headshaker some relief. We are now on our third year of dealing with this syndrome. My guy is a Photonic headshaker, he is highly affected by the UV. I keep/kept a journal of the daily UV, temp, wind mph, and his mood/reaction to being outside. It helped me alot to see what the UV/wind was to make him HS and what it was when he did not. I have not used the Lifewave patches for him but, I did have acupuncture treaments done and was able to see improvement with them. Unfortunately, my vet that was doing the treatments moved states and I opted to just take a break from everything with him. He is inside the barn during the highest UV in the day and then is turned out with his mask when it is low. He is on Melatonin and Mag. I have tried numerous other things prior to this. New Bolton had done a study on HS and found some postive results with the melatonin/magnesium combination. There is a group on yahoo for headshaker owners and they are very experienced owners and recently a veterinarian starting  to research this syndrome as well. I wish I had an opinion about the patches but I do not. I did consider them until I researched them on the headshaker group and found it seems no one really had results with them.

Thank you so much for the info! My vet too told me about the Melatonin added to Mag combo so I have added the melatonin to her diet as of Saturday. Trying really hard to keep from having to add the Cypri- (can't ever remember the name of it!!!) product as I've read it can cause bouts of colic but have it ordered just in case as well as a nose net. And very good info on the journal, dont' know why I didn't think of that seeing as I keep a riding journal on them....

The ION patch is different from the regular tan and white ones. On people you use them on the temples to help you sleep. They can really help to calm a boogery horse. My trainer has had good success with them on nervous horses too. She patches better than I do, so hers are way more effective.

I hope it helps some and you find yours some relief. I got to where I started hauling my guy again over last winter '12 and spring '13. By May the UV was too high even with his mask for me to take him to stand at a BR all day. It was about that time my vet was gone too so the acupuncture stopped I stopped hauling him. I do ride him over the winter when I can.

It is amazing the difference the mask and nose net can do too. I have not had a lot of result with the nose net but in a low breeze it has helped keep the wind off him. :)  Each horse is different just like people, what works for one may not work for another. I am always up to trying something though to help him. His personality is worth his weight in gold.  If you try the patches please let me know. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you both...I need to find more info on the EquiWinner patches as that is the patch that they have used with some success in New Zealand on a lot of jumpers it seems. But an Ion patch may also be helpful. and will keep you all up to date...
