Location: Pennsylvania | Hey Y'all, my fiance and I are thinking of starting a small tack cleaning buisness. Just something to do for a little bit of extra money to spend. I was looking for some opinions on if you would pay to have your tack cleaned, and how much would you think would be a reasonable amount to charge? We don't really have any idea set in mind, we want to cover the cost of the cleaning products as well as a little extra for our time, but still want to be a very reasonable amount! Any help, advise, and opinions would be greatly appreciated :) |

| I paid $25 to have my saddle oiled once. Sorry, I'm no more help than that! |

Location: Right Where I'm Meant To Be :) | If I had the extra money, yes I would pay you to clean my tack at a show (no shipping costs). However, I think you'd have better lunch setting up a booth at another discipline type of show. For example, harness classes, the saddlebred western show pleasure classes, AQHA shows etc. where there's more silver and they are judged on looks
*luck not lunch lol!

Location: Up and over to the right | Would you do it locally or have people ship? I personally like cleaning my tack so I wouldn't be interested but if you went to local shows there might be a few people. Detailing the inside of my truck would be a whole other story... |

| I used to do this when I was a kid at hunter/jumper shows. I would charge $50 for the saddle and bridle to be cleaned and oiled, and the bits and stirrups polished. I made a TON of money at it, too. (Well, a couple hundred bucks at least) Then I got the idea to do this at the western pleasure shows but the people didn't want to pay more than $50 and I didn't want to do it for $50 because it was a LOT more work than the english saddles. I think in the right atmosphere you could make a lot of $$, but you have to find the clientele and the right price point. (Also, if the clients are really picky but penny pinchers...is it worth it to you?) |

Location: Armuchee, GA, NW section of Ga | Just had it done. I took two saddles to the local shoe repair shop that does leather work too. They charged me $40.00 each saddle and both look great.

| I'll add, I was at a larger race when I paid to have mine oiled - I didn't ship it anywhere. |

Location: Pennsylvania | Thanks everyone for the input! We would do it locally, most likely go to the local shows and maybe some bigger boarding barns to get a clientele started. I know some people dread cleaning their tack and put if off until the absolutely have to, and other people enjoy doing it themselves. We are just looking to pick up a few extra bucks here and there with it. I appreciate all the input :) I was thinking around $50 for a basic western saddle, give or take a little depending on the condition of it, and maybe say $10 for a headstall and bit. And around $50 for an english saddle & bridle, english tack is a little easier to clean in my opinion! I want to cover my time, supplies, and also give people a good deal! We really aren't sure yet though, if anyone I know is interested I will most likely ask them what they would say a fair price is and go from there. |
