How do you all shape your hat? do you send it to someone? or do you do it at home?

someone fill me in! I had mine PERFECT and then I realized I left my hair spray in my hat box and it was on my brim and now it's all catawampus :(

Straw hats I have someone else do.  Felt I can do at home...it's more forgiving.  Just gotta boil a pot of water and go!!

I take mine to a tack store it cost me 10. They use dry steam, wet steam from a kettle makes the felt softer and not hold its shape as well. They also clean it and add stiffner after.

There's a guy at our local western store that shapes them for me too.  He does an excellent job and knows exactly how I like my hats shaped.  He doesn't charge me anything but he has a donation jar sitting on the counter with all proceeds going to a therapeutic riding center in town.  I'll gladly throw in to the pot.

I have a friend take them to a QH show when they need to be done. The only person around here does a terrible job (they don't hold), and I don't trust myself, lol

If you look at the movies ... all the old movies had some type of 10 gallon hats with creases in them with styles that made certain stars famous and easily recognized ..

If you look at movies from the 1960's till now ... you find some movies with everyone wearing the square top creased hats named the Gambler to Rodeo creases or whatever ..... and no one notices the square topped hats ............ or ever see them in western stores ... you find the same old J B STETSON Rancher crease in about everything ....

Square Crown hat ...
