I have a horse that just got reset in an eggbar shoe (yes there is a good reason), and my farrier suggested wrapping his heels/shoes in either good Duck Tape ("not the cheap s***") or vet wrap if I run him. He's always been prone to pulling shoes, however, I've been pleasently surprised that he's had very little over-reach problems since being in these shoes. He's had them on for one 6-week set already, and has to wear them for at least 6 weeks more, per his vets.

So, if anyone has experience with this, and can share any tips, pointers or instructions on how to do it without impeding his traction, please, share away!

shouldn't have an issue with traction because you don't need to wrap underneath. just run vet wrap first around the back of his heel bulb and rear edge of shoes and then do duct tape over the vet wrap so it stays and you don't pull all his hair out. Make sure the edges are flush so nothing gets between the tape and his heel.

I've run Chance quite a bit with his feet wrapped in vet wrap and duck tape. (even the cheap s*** LOL) without any problems of him slipping on the tape. Heck it usually comes off around the 2nd barrel. I just wrapped vet wrap around the foot a couple times, then stuck some duck tape strips from the back of the heel down to the foot and often around over to the toe so I made a U with the bottom of the U on the ground. (not sure that makes sense but I didn't want the end of the tape on the ground where it could come off easily with the dirt) And actually the good duck tape isn't as slick feeling as those "$1 for 50,000 feet of tape" rolls are. LOL.

LOL, Mel, you crack me up. And those were my farriers words...and if you know him, that's one of the nicer things he can say! He's...colorful, but I've known him my whole life, and he can put some of the best feet on a horse I've ever seen.
Your instructions actually made a lot of sense, and I just might be able to handle that...

I don't know your shoer, but maybe I should send Chance to you and let HIM meet your shoer! LOL. Most shoers are pretty colorful with their descriptions. :
