My wonderful grandmother has received news she is in remission after going through a stem cell transplant a few months ago. Her dream is to attend the NFR and she can fly again after October so we are planning a trip for her! Vegas is across the country so I need some help with recommendations of where to stay, what nights to go, and the must "to-do"s! This is a very exciting time for my family! Thank you!

we went for the first time last year, went the first 3 nights and stayed at the Gold Coast. Looking to go again this year but looking into something during the week, to me the first weekend was amazing for the first time I was excited and just ready to get there but I am hoping that it wont be so busy during the week, I realize it is always busy but hopefully not as bad as the first / last weekend.  We did the package deal with the Gold Coast and actually had to stay an extra 2 nights because of the weather where we were flying into and they accomidated us with NO problems.  There is a shuttle there to take you to and from the NFR nightly and you can catch a shuttle during the day that will take you close to the strip. from there we took the monorail to get from place to place for the shopping and going down the strip. The fountains at the Belagio are a MUST see while you are there they are AMAZING!!!   Good luck // Have fun!!!!

Exciting!! I LOVE NFR and have been blessed with the opportunity to attend many times.

Personally, I loved staying at the South Point. This is where the bucking horse sale and bull sale both happen. The There is a small shopping section there too. They have a shuttle that will take you to and from the T & M as well. However, it is a bit far out if you are planning to attend other shows, the other Cowboy Christmases, and do the touristy things.

We also stayed at a Comfort Inn Suites just a block off the strip in between the Hard Rock and the T & M. It was a nice place, cheaper than the strip, and still within walking distance of MANY things to do. Cabs can be expensive and parking is not plentiful many places ....

The large hotels on the strip are pretty much as advertised ... we liked the MGM Grand - they have a great Cowboy Christmas and this is where the buckle ceremonies are at - and Circus Circus when we went with a bunch of kiddos too.

Good luck and have fun!!

ETA - the monorail is cool too!! ;)

We have gone every year for the last 10 years and I have stayed just about everywhere. Last year we were in about the same boat as you because we took my father in law as the NFR was on his bucket list. Last year we stayed at the MGM Grand. Most of the cowboys stayed there. The rooms were newly redone and the beds were by far the most comfortable and it was very clean and nice. The nights we did not go to the rodeo, we watched it live in the MGM theater! It was awsome! It was live, full theater screen, and nice to have great seats and be served drinks. It was just about as good as being there in the arena. We only went to the rodeo 2 nights because we bought the best of the best seats so they were pricey but well worth it. 3 rows off the dirt right behind the first barrel.Never again will we skimp on seats and sit in the upper levels. Get great seats, and then watch the other nights on the MGM Theater.  The NRS shopping is right there and they had ALOT of super deals and gave alot of awsome freebies.
I have stayed at Gold Coast and will never stay there again. It was dingy dirty, the food sucked and was no fun what so ever. The "after show" they do after the nights rodeo is worth going to. It's in the bar and hosted by Joe Beaver and Donnie Gay but it's not worth staying at that hotel for. Just go one night if you want to see it.
The South Point I have stayed at a couple times. It's fun, BUT, it's far off the strip out in it's own little world so it's not easy access to anything. We had a rental car to get around when we stayed there. The buckle ceremonies there each night are fun, but it's held in the bar and is extremily crowded. If you want a seat in there, you better go sit down in there about 5:00 or you wont get a seat. It was alot of fun there, but it is definatelly geared to a younger party crowd.
Now that we stayed at MGM for the NFR, that is where we will go each year. Nothing else compares. We didnt need a car, everything was easy accessable right from there, the most comfortable of rooms, good food and alot of choices AND, it was by far the best place to watch the rodeo on the nights we didnt go.

The MGM is a really cool place to stay at. There is a lot of contestants that stay there. Can walk across the street and go to Hooters where they show the nfr live on a big screen. I think they also play the nfr live at the mgm in the theater but you have to get there way early because it dills up fast. The mgm is more of a party scene FYI. If I where you I'd go to the 10th round and watch the others at one of the hotels.

You most definitely get what you pay for on seats ... we were lucky and sat first row right above the roping box. I have amazing pictures!!
