OK so I started using a combination bit on my mare cricket. I remembered she is the same as my old made I use to have who's name was cricket bug lol. but this bit worked amazing on turns and great cause I have light hands. but its been awhile since I have used this bit. and when I but it on my bridle then on cricket the bridle is right on her eye. I had to put extra holes in it to have the bit sit right in her mouth but the bridle is rubbing right on the bottom of her eye. I don't remember this happening on my old mare. but I used a nylon bridle on her. do you use this same bit if so can you show me how yours sit on your horse and what should I do... Bigger headstall or ???

thank you

Ive had this bit before and I got rid of it. Whatever headstall I put it on it made the bridle strap very close to the horses eye. It's because of where the hook is where you loop your headstall through, it's position way too forward. If it was about an inch and possibly just half an inch back it would be just fine but the manufacturers keep on making it this way.

Do you have a bridle designed for a gag bit? These bits have shorter cheeks so the buckle is lower.

If you do have a gag bridle and still having the problem, take the bridle to a local saddle maker, and have him/her to make you a bridle with even shorter cheeks.

Your horse might just have a petite head and need a custom bridle for that bit

I use this on my gelding and I have several nice bridles that won't work with it because it requires such a short bridle on his almost pony sized head. I use a reins men bridle I bought on a whim at tractor supply and it is the ONLY bridle it will fit on, and it is still a little close to the eyes, but not much you can do when the horse only rides in that bit. Haha and it has never bothered him before.

It is just a basic medium oil leather one. I bought it like 6 years ago and it's still holding up. Haha I don't even know if they have the exact one anymore.
