I am sick of paying for OTC creams, I am going to see a skin Dermatologist for lines and wrinkles. Anyone have any experience in this area? Please share.

Botox is wonderful!!!

It takes about 10 days for the full effect, and another two days till you get used to it.  But you will look a lot more "refreshed".

Botox is good but IMO Dysport works much better and lasts longer.

Now does botox work to fill in forehead lines or do you need something totally different for that?

Botox just deadens it does not fill

Botox paralyzes the muscles.  You would you use a  filler like Restylane for the lines around your mouth - that "fills" the lines up.

I have a friend that moved to a ritzy neighborhood. She said its like desperate housewives over there. They all do botox. They get together and have botox parties. But she said when the botox wears off they look worse than when they started. She said once you start doing this you have to keep doing it unless you want to look like an old leather bag. She also said it is pretty pricey about $600 a pop! Is that true??

They say if you start early enough you will actually keep you wrinkles at bay.  The other thing is that looking more refreshed is "addicting".  Pricing is by unit.  I needed 30 units for my forehead, and I am not very wrinkely to begin with.  Price per unit varies and it is worth checking around for specials (e.g. Groupon), and different locations.  A unit can cost around $13, but on my last fix I paid $8.25 - makes a huge difference.

I need Botox for my synkenesis from having my facial nerve grafted, but I'm scared to death they're going to mess me up worse.  A good practitioner is a must!

"An ounce of prevention is wortha pound of cure"

You are supposed to start before you get wrinkes so that they do not deveop. If you wait until you have wrinkles and then get botox the skin willbe stretched and look deflated. You will usually need fillers to fill in the empty space. You are supposed to get it before you have wrinkles, that way they do not develop and the skin stays tight, also the change will not be so drastic. If its done early and conservatively it can look pretty natural. It helps you age gracefully and avoid more drastic measures later.

Also if you look like an old leather bag it is because of the sun, botox doesn't do that! They probably looked like that before and that's why they got botox. And if you stop using it yes your skin will revert back to the way it was. Even if you already have wrinkles botox can do wonders. Just don't let your doc overdo it. And go to a doc not some spa. As far as dysport being better that's just a matter of opinion. I work for a derm and we usually charge $12 per unit but most charge at least $15 or more. Shop around but like I said go to someone that has training and a license.

How old are you? I get forehead only 25-30 units course I get it at cost but normally it would be $360. It lasts 3-4 months. Most of our younger than 40 crowd only get 20-25 units. Dysport units are cheaper but you use more so the costs averages the same. Some people overdo it and get 50-60 units and they look very done. I love the way it opens my eyes. I had eye surgery and my lid on one eye is really heavy. When my Botox wears off I get really tired eyes.

I've had my forehead done twice in the last 12 months.  Just to not look so "frowny" and tired.  I'm still ok with the lines around my eyes, etc.  I'm not 20 anymore and I earned some of those wrinkles the hard way.  I stand by that.  However, I look a little "brighter" with the Botox on the forehead.
