I made pickled beets and strawberry jam. Were going to spend another day canning and I was wondering if anyone has a good recipe that I could try? I'm fully addicted to canning now and want to try and many different recipes as I can. How pretty and they look yummmy If you would like some strawberry jam I would send some to you. You're such a sweety you bet your pants I would love some stawberry jam, dont go out of your way just send it when you have the time. I will send it as soon as I can..get it? As soon as I CAN. Bahahaha I crack myself up. I will send a package after I make my stuff this week. I'm making a couple different kinds and will send you one of each.
Oh you CAN really crack me at times, But when you CAN send me some LOL,, you knuckle head
I thought it was very clever. |

| NEVER thought that I would can. The less time I spend in the kitchen the better!
Then I finally was able to plant a garden. Had so many tomatoes (despite the fact that they literally make me sick) I hated to see them go to waste that I made tomato sauce (that I can eat). I think I got maybe 9 pints or so.
The next year, I planted more tomato plants and every thing that went in my sauce, with the exceptions of salt, garlic and lime/lemon juice, was grown in my garden, i.e. tomatoes, green peppers, celery and onion.
This past year was a bumper year and I canned tomato sauce, green beans, pears, pear butter, pear honey, peaches, peach honey, apple pie filling and wild grape jam. Unfortunately I never got any of my potatoes canned and they are turning green on me.
Simplified my Christmas giving, that's for sure.
Oops, forgot to say that I use the Ball canning book for recipies.

| Ripe Tomato Relish the best thing you have ever had on Purple Hull Peas. I LOVE to can and will can anything I can get in the kitchen. I canned with my grandmother and my husbands grandmother. LOVED those days and times and stories they had to tell. |

Location: NE WY | I taught myself how to can 2 years ago. I have a Ball Canning book with tons of recipes! I have also found several on pinterest. We had an awesome choke cherry year this year and I made Jelly and Syrup from that. I also made Choke Cherry - Jalepeno and we serve it over Cream Cheese with Crackers as an appitizer...so yummy!!! I also made pasta sauce with my tomatoes, canned peaches, apple butter. My favorite is Apricot Pineapple Jam! My son loves the Strawberry Rubarb and my husband loves Blackberry Lemon. It is a fun hobby! |

Sorry, I was at work earlier and didn't get a chance to get back...
The Ball Canning book is wonderful and pretty much every recipe (at least that we have tried) works well. We always use it to can tomatoes with (we grow a garden and usually have a load of tomatoes) and for any other canning questions or recipes. The internet is your friend when it comes to canning. :-) |

Location: NE WY | I agree about the internet! I have read so many great blogs about canning, watched a few video's too that were awesome. It is really pretty easy once you learn the "lingo" and the steps and I really enjoy it! I love having a gifts around all the time also, so handy to grab a jar of jam to give to a neighbor that helps me out, a cute gift for a teacher or really anyone.
I will dig up my Syrup recipes tomorrow and post them for you all. They are YUMMY....we eat them on pancakes, waffles, biscuits, ice cream.....maybe that is why my a$$ got bigger this winter...... |

My husband and I love to can together. We have put it on the back burner, but this year are going to make an effort to do more. |

I have one that I have used but I greatly dislike watermelon rind pickles so I couldn't tell you if it is good or not. I'll give it to you if you want it though. :-) |
