I'm helping some friends sell their horse and pony, and time is of the essence because the more I ride them, the more the people decide they're worth keeping. Since the horse & pony are not being ridden, it's a smart decision to sell them and that's what I've been asked to help accomplish so I'm NOT trying to convince the owners that they should keep these two.

That said, neither is a barrel horse. One is a little, cutting-bred 14 year old gelding who sat in the pasture doing nothing for about 5 years before I came out to start riding him. The other is a really stout 13 hand pony who hasn't been ridden much in the past year, but has yet to try anything silly with me.

I have a price range in mind for both of them, but these horses will not be priced all that high as the owners haven't invested much in them and basically just want to sell them rather than continue feeding animals they never ride. I am planning to go out again next week several days and ride more, plus get some videos & pictures to use in ads. So far, both of them walk and trot, neck rein, move off my feet, stop and back. One is buddy sour and kind of bratty but I'm working through that, and the other seems to be a pretty decent kids pony though he's nothing fancy. I plan on loading them and hauling to the local arena to work with them in a different setting, and I may be tempted to try some barrel stuff on the horse as he appears to be athletic.

With that in mind, what are the important things I need to be sure they can/will do before advertising them? What is important in a video selling a kids pony or a trail horse?

people like the same things, basically...easy stop, nice neck rein and off-rein. Maybe a little reverse arc and sidepass, caatches leads on cue. the pony, they want to see a kid do some simple maneuvers on a pony too, maybe trot thru barrels and poles. Good luck. PM me with price of horse ifhes kid gentle :

I'm not sure if the horse (who is probably only about 13.2 or 13.3) will end up being kid gentle in the next month or so. He's a little watchy and still trying to test me a little, though he hasn't done anything too bad, just wants to go back to his buddy. I guess he was a pretty salty cow horse when they were actually riding him so I'm really wanting to see if he has barrel horse potential. My goal is to get them sold by the end of April so if anyone wants to use either one in 4-H they can turn in ID papers on time.

Honestly, I don't know where to market them except for maybe Craigslist or Equinenow or a similar web site. To me videos wouldn't be greatly important, however good pictures would be.

However I do have a cousin in Kansas that was looking at a pony for his daughters but don't know if they are still looking (they went to look at a pony, and his one daughter broke her arm riding it trying it out   ). I'll try to find out if you'd like me to.  Feel free to PM me with info about the pony (age, gender, appx. breed) and a price range in mind, and I'll do some research on my end.
