	my horse recently got hurt… the night before the first rodeo. we were in an indoor arena and i loaped through until i turned the second and i let him run on the way to the third because we hit the third a week before and i wanted to be confident going into the next rodeo. he felt fine to me.. but as soon as i got back to the end of the arena my dad started yelling at me to get off because he was limping. i immediately got off and we loosened him up, took his boots off, and i walked him forward a few steps. i took my backup horse through barrels then we went back and ponied the injured horse. he put weight on it but was still limping. we took him to a very good vet the next morning and she told us he had tweaked a muscle in his upper left hip. she also said that he was missing a few fibers in there (she ultra sounded him).. he was in a stall for two weeks and we had to take him back to the vet. he started limping as soon as the started trotting him. she said walk for 20 mins each day for two weeks.. i have done that for three days and he did not limp while walking. but he confused me today! when i went to feed he came trotting out of his barn no limp and then when i got closer to the fence with his grain, he started cantering! i would just like to know what you all think about this..

Extreme Veteran Posts: 383	thera plates did wonders for my boy who tore muscle off of right hip and tore his si ligament - I have a vet who does osteopathy work and I believe she is heads and tails above most vets - because she just can get a better feel for them and understands the body in another way besides just medical (IMO)

Certified Snake Wrangler Posts: 1672 Location: North MS	Personally I would give him a month off and let him stay out in the pasture or in a turnout since he willingly cantered on his own. Then bring back with some light riding 10 min, 20 min, 30 min. Add in trotting, then add in loping. All based on soundness. If he limps again- back to vet.

You get what you give Posts: 13030 Location: Texas	I wouldn't judge what he's doing on his own when he knows he's going to get fed. They can be hurt and still run around and play.. they don't always baby themselves well to heal.

	UPDATE: we called the vet about a week ago and she told us we could start building a loap and loap through and see how he takes it. well i trotted him around the arena three times and he started limping again… so i got off. we have been doing pulse therapy on him for three days and that helped a little but i will definitely not be running him soon. taking him to a vet in sallisaw (sp?) next week. so so nervous to hear what the vet is going to say. he has been highly recommended in my area and has worked on some nice race horses. so praying that god helps me understand his plan to bring him back
