 Am I really the Weirdo?

Location: Kansas | Many of you will remember my earlier post about my new OTT horse, Streak. He's been with me since Feb. 20th and he's becoming an old pro at traveling, loading, unloading, eating & drinking on the road, and hanging out at the trailer. Plus I've been playing with him on the pattern, and this weekend I gave loping a shot in our exhibitions. We're a ways from entering, but he's getting the idea I think. Best part is he is completely calm and relaxed going in and out of the pen. This is his smoothest exhibition on Saturday. He did even better today but I don't have those videos uploaded to Youtube yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QciCAD_NU_8&feature=youtu.be |

Thank you both. He is a ton of fun to work with and I'm really glad I have this opportunity to let him shine.
LOL - I knew you were there Saturday because I heard your name, can't remember if I saw your run or not. It got a little crazy with Cliff at the end of the open & Joker 7 horses later in the senior class.
I am so proud of him. I literally have just kind of shown him what I want him to do, and am letting him figure most things out on his own. Trotting the pattern wasn't gaining us anything, but once he tried it at a lope, things seemed to click and now he's going in there focused on his job instead of worrying about where the other horses are. Maybe now that he has the basic idea, I'll be able to go back and fine-tune things at a trot and have it make sense to him.
This is his second exhibition Sunday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4eX6MT8OGc&list=UU3h0VmyuYbqBRUor4JBQVlA |

This one looks even better than the one you posted last night!!
Im telling you- I worked like a FEENE trying to get him in his right lead in general much less going to the first barrel. You have done a great job with my little (BIG) resuce horse. Im so glad you saw my post and gave him a chance. I knew he wanted an oppurtunity to shine! |

Thank you!! The right lead is still a mess. I want my boyfriend to get on him and work on it, because getting the right lead is one of my major weaknesses as a rider. Heck I can only get my finished horses on it about 75 percent of the time LOL.
Last week I decided after loping 15 circles to the right in the left lead, I'd just let him try to turn the first barrel on the left lead. Guess what, the next time he switched to the right lead on his own. HA! I guess if he wants to start out on the left, switch to the right to turn and switch again after he leaves it, I can live with that. Still going to keep working on the right lead to strengthen it, but I'm not going to nitpick what lead he lopes in on as long as he straightens it out to turn.
He really does want to be a star. We have had a few arguments & battles, but by and large, he really tries to please so if I'm not getting through to him, I am trying to find another way to ask in hopes that he'll understand it that way. I am so so glad I begged my parents to make room for him, and luckily my youngest brother agreed to sell his horse that he wasn't using to make it an easier decision for Dad. |
