Location: Arkansas | My parents are looking at a trailer with a slide out. Anyone have one and can give their opinion? They wondered if it would be another maintenance issue or if they were worth it. Lots of times my mother, myself and two small children travel together or my parents are at ropings for days at a time. Room is essential to them. Thanks. |

Location: Deep South | We never had an issue with ours and definitely appreciated the extra room! We've since sold our LQ trailer, but at the time it was two parents, two girls in high school rodeo, and almost always an extra person or two tagging along. |

| We do not have a slide out. We opted for a mid-tack for the extra room instead. We explored our options when we bought our new trailer a few months ago. The slide out adds a lot of extra weight to your trailer. You also loose some wall space for cabinets with the slide outs. We did hear one horror story of a person's not retracting and he had to drive down the highway with the slide out. He wasn't very happy with the trailer company when that happened. I've heard lots of good things about them as well. There is always a good side and a bad side with everything. Good luck. |

Location: Arizona | We have one and it's never caused any problems. We like it because of how much room it opens up in the trailer. But just like anything, it's another working part that can break and have to be repaired. You take that risk with any extra options. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I have a 14' shortwall with a 10' slideout. We absolutely love it. I've never had it leak and no dust when I go down my gravel roads. We bought it new in 06 and just this last year I had the seal replaced. I don't do anything special with it for maintenance. The way mine is set up I can get in the bathroom and the kitchen area with the slide in so while going down the road that isn't a problem. I normally put my slide out even at 1 day runs just for the room to get in and change clothes. To the poster that said the persons slide didn't go in there is a hand crank to put it in if you blow a fuse or something happens. I had to do it once when I blew a fuse and I was too stupid to look for a blown fuse. We bought the trailer when the kids and I were going to youth rodeos. Now its mostly just me and my dog and occasionally my 20 yr old daughter. Even if it is just me I wouldn't give up my slide for anything. Its a must have on the next trailer I buy. |

This was not the case with ours. Our slide out accomodated our dinette, and there were overhead cabinets on the slide out, just as if it were only a wall. |

I agree. I have a full sized couch and a huge double door closet in my slide. I also have cupboards above the couch. If I had more closets or cupboards I'd just take more crap along. |

Location: Right Where I'm Meant To Be :) | Is this a JOKE??? They all have a rod to hand-crank it in. Safety first, eh!?! They wouldn't even fit down the road with someone going the other direction. Hey, why not put the awning out too??? I'm sorry and I'm not blasting you, I just can't get over the things people do. Here's your sign |

Some slides will jump the track and be stuck, no hand crank can bring them in if they have jumped |

Location: run2win land | Our trailer with slide out is 10 yrs old. Never had a problem. Even at little jackpots my hubby will slide it out. It only takes a few seconds. I would never buy a trailer without one because of all the extra room. |

 Go For It!
Location: Texas | I have one - 14' shortwall with 10' slide. 7' sofa gives lots of room and there is a huge closet next to it. It really opens up the space since it is along the entire long wall. Love having it. I've heard that the ones that have the electric motors are pretty problem free. Hydraulic is fast but more prone to having a problem. You always want to make sure your trailer is fairly level when using it. It really doesn't add a huge amount of "extra" weight, I'm thinking it was less than <500 lbs. It is certainly worth the little bit of extra weight for me.
Good luck! |
