I'd like to build a small tack room in the corner of my barn.  The space looks to be approx 6.5' wide by 5' deep, can do anything for height as it's in an indoor arena.  Haven't decided what wall I want the door to be on yet.

I need space for 3 saddles, bridles, brushes and one garage can (grain).  Anybody have pictures of your smaller tack areas?

I do not have an actual "tack room", but a metal shed that my grandpa bought for me (my uncle used to make them).  Mine is probably a 6'X6' or so.  I have 4 saddle racks (wall space for more if I needed them), shelves in the corners and bars going across below the corner shelves that I can fold winter blankets over, or stack saddle pads on.  I have plenty of halter and bridle hooks and still plenty of floor space for some grain barrels.

I don't have any pictures, but I would really think that space will be plenty big enough as long as you keep it tidy.

If space is limited, I would get a saddle rack that is 3-4 tier high (whatever you need) and you can also get saddle blanket racks that hang up and down so you can have the swing out arms. Hang your headstalls/halters etc on hooks on one wall and on another wall I would do something like this for brushes and boots etc (I'm getting one for my tack roomhttp://www.improvementscatalog.com/rustic-9-cubby-storage-unit/308871

Since you are unsure of your dimensions I would suggest going with standard size plywood and making it easy to build.

You can use 3/8 plywood for everything but the door and floor .... use 1/2 or 3/4 on these ...

You can build a 4ft x 6ft without having to build a frame. You can screw 2x4's on alternate sides and when you set them together they will fit together and you just screw them together (find you a wooden shipping crate to look at ... a lot of seed onions and other garden plant boxes are made like this)..... then you screw the other 2x4's on to strengthen it even more just like a frame ... each corner is alternately overlapped to the other wall which also adds strength.... very simple once you figure out which side of each piece to screw the 2x4 on ... lol ...

or buy you 5 sheets of 4x8 plywood for the walls and door ... rip one into two 2x8 sheets and lay it out on the ground and figure out where to screw the 2x4's at each corner and along the bottom and tops and then fit them together .. lol ....don't forget the plywood for top and bottom of tack room ... (3 sheets) ... 12-15 framing 2x4's will be needed too ... and 5 eight ft 1x4's for the door ... and 4 big strap hinges bolted to metal on the inside of door and wall ...

Use the 4 ft side as a door .. for strength ...just screw a frame of 1x4's around the perimeter and do a X across the inside facing ....... nothing worse than trying to struggle to get saddles or feed cans in and out of a tiny door .... and then think thief proof ... your lock hasps need to be bolted to a larger piece of metal or wood inside the shed .. other wise a crowbar will just rip them off in 2 seconds ...

You can actually sit this size on a couple of pallets to get the bottom off the ground .. and use a couple of pieces of sheet metal for the top ...

PICTURE ...........>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This idiot built this one wrong side out ... you want your frame on the inside ... mentally turn this one inside out so the exterior is slick plywood walls ... and frame is inside .. Tlol

I have built dog houses, pigeon houses, pig houses and feed bins with this matching over lapping corner 2x4 plywood scheme .... the ones done with marine plywood for outside use are in excellent condition and are over 20 years old ...

SEE IF YOU CAN FIGURE THIS OUT ... room is going to be limited to just your most needed items .... one of those trailer door apron thingys for your brushes and stuff would work great and a 4 saddle tree stand ...

For additional ways of storing stuff ... look at rear and side tack rooms on various trailers ... some of these gals are pretty smart how they get all that stuff in there.. lol
