Is anybody on the rodeo team there? I'm looking into college rodeo. What are the average costs per year? Do you have time for acedemics? I tried to contact the coach but he didn't really answer my questions. No rude comments please. Thanks!
PS. If you go to river falls in Wisconsin and are on the rodeo team same questions to you:)

Brookings is one of the better located schools in the Great Plains region, but it is a very big region, so there is a lot of travel time that will cut into class time. However, lots of people make it work. River Falls will be worse for this because of being on the edge rather than in the middle. My SIL went to SDSU and liked it, they have a nice indoor for the rodeo, I'm not sure about the coach. I was in the central Rocky Mountain region at the University of Wyoming, and loved that location! Other farthest rodeos were 4-5 hours away, otherwise they were 1-3. It was easy to go to class and leave after, and still have plenty of time to get where we were going!

I went to UW also and unless you have a good rodeo scholarship I wouldn't college rodeo.  If your good enough to win/place at college rodeos your good enough for WPRAs or big jackpots that pay better.  Also if your worried about enough time for accidemics you probably already don't have time to rodeo.  I understand that you want to rodeo, I was there once to, but it should take a backseat to your education.  I know this probably isn't what you want to hear but there will still be horses and rodeo after you graduate.

Well it's going to be the cost of your membership, entry fees, fuel, hotel rooms, board for your horses, feed, hay, current health and coggins, brand papers, and food.

Im in not sure what the cost of membership and fees are anymore, but you can figure out what fuel and food will run you. I would call or email the coach and ask for specifics like the cost of board in the area, how much if any of your travel expenses will be paid by the school, and if there is any possibility of a scholarship. Keep in mind they have a lot of entries and only pay four places in each round and the average. If you win the payout good though.
