Location: CentralTexas		So I'm getting into running younger horses and I have a derby horse this year. I was told that you can run until they are 6 or 7. My questions is: if I run my 5 year old this year in derbies, can he run when he is 6 too? What are the age limits?

Location: MD		Yes, 2 years in the Derby. If he is running now, as a 5 yr old in the Derbies, you will have next year, as well. Some Derbies will only allow for 6 y/o's and under, so those 5 y/o Futurity colts may only get one Derby year.

Location: You never know where I will show up......		You just have to check with the rules on different events.  They are all different.
For example the BFA Derby is for 5 & 6 year olds.
Many of the northern derbies are for 7 and under.
If it is a derby/maturity, that means the horse can run in it regardless of age, provided it ran in that event as a futurity horse.
And the WPRA Derby, a horse has 2 years of Derby eligibility.  So if the horse ran futurities as a 4 year old, it can run Derby events until it's 6, and if it didn't run WPRA futurities until it was a 5 year old, it can Derby up until it is a 7 year old.
