Expert Posts: 2685	Some of you know I had my mares L stifle injected 5 days ago. They said to bute and not ride (force exercise) for 3 days, then go to normal riding. I ended up giving her 4 days because I looked out in the pasture on day 3 and she was loping around cross firing (not normal) with the young horses. Yesterday (first day to ride) I just trotted for air/exercise and when I did ask for the lope it was to the right and she stumbled on the back end and picked up cross firing so I immediately ask for the trot a few strides and got off. Scared me to death. Normal? More time off? Call vet? I'm probably paranoid but don't want to be "one of those owners" to the poor vet.

The Advice Guru Posts: 6419	Check temp, if has a fever go to vet immediately. Sometimes horses need a booster injection to become completely sound. Then it is just a matter of time before they need regular injections. If she has been favouring for awhile, she may need chiro, and massage after injections

Ms. Poutability Posts: 2362 Location: In my own world	I had my mare stifles done and was told it could take 2 weeks for them to feel better from it and may need a booster injection 1 month from the first injection.

I Am a Snake Killer Posts: 1927 Location: Golden Gulf Coast of Texas	I was always told stall rest or small pen for 4-5 days then start back slow and build back up! Straight line trotting is the best.
