Extreme Veteran Posts: 349	Ok guys I am painfully more broke than normal and cannot afford the roping saddle that I was trying to buy any more. So I have been able to fix my horse's back sore problem with shimms. How bad would it be to rope with shims? Is it bad? Seems so weird to me

Northern Exposure Posts: 3919 Location: Wasagaming, Manitoba, Canada	My boyfriend shims (sometimes double shims depending on the horse) his saddle on a variety of horses and has no problems. If you're shimming up because it's too wide but the right angle that's one thing; if the bar angles aren't right and shims are making it "okay" I'd be concerned about the pressure on impact...

Extreme Veteran Posts: 349	Bar angles are fine for him but its too wide. He's the type of horse that has a really wide loin but is short backed and has almost no withers and is narrow through that area of his body. And yes Team roping as a heeler.

Before I would shim-because of the jerk your horse is taking, I would invest in a CSI pad and if needed, then add their shims. I think that you could cause some loin soreness if you rock the saddle back too far.
