My horse is squaring off his right back toe.  I take him to a referral vet next week and my vet said we may be looking at stifle, hock or his SI joint.  I was just wondering if any of you had a experience that was similar and what it was.  I had one person say it was her horses whorlbone.  Also FYI per my vet his feet are balanced and ok.

I have one and her problem is hocks. I keep them injected and it helps.

I had a mare that squared off both her back feet... she was a butt dragger too...
there was nothing physically wrong with her either, just just drug her feet more then the others did...
but since yours is one side... I am curious on the answer

Me too CindyT I am curious.
He had his hocks injected 3 or 4 months ago that is what has me puzzled.  Before he was injected he wasn't squaring off his toe.
Come to think of it he has more of a butt dragging roll back style to the right and more of a runaround style to the left.

my 5yr old gelding did it and had a previous broken pelvis. My coming 3yr old has a slightly squared off toe but he came out of pasture and just got back from 30 days under saddle and rode really sound so I'm thinking more how it grew and he traveled in pasture. I'll have him checked out if he doesn't feel right when I ride him.

I literally just got home from the vet with a horse doing the exact thing, on the exact same leg as yours, and my vet injected his hocks.

I had this horse into the vet about a month ago and he was traveling symetrical. Both hocks and stifles xrayed clean, however this weekend at a barrel racing clinic he was popping leads and literally worked his left hand turns like crap. He has never "floundered" around on a pattern as bad as he did this weekend.

Took him to the vet today and he is traveling asymetrical, the right hind toe is wearing square, and he flexed off on the right hand side. We injected him and my vet had a tuff time getting the "cocktail" into the joint; lots of inflammation in there.

It now makes sense as to why he didn't want to switch leads coming off first, wanted to bow off, and not get onto his hind end on the second and third. Can't wait to see how the injections help him.

Thanks everybody.  When we injected him his joints were easy to do and xrays show mild changes. Yesterday I had a massage therapist work on him some and she found some rock hard hamstrings and that could be cause by all of the things my vet mention.  The toe dragging side was harder.
