I have a 3 yr old that will rear straight up when she doesn't want to do something. for instance: I was riding in pasture headed towards barn and wanted to go the opposite direction and she reared up. or asked her to side pass towards a log and she reared. its if she doesn't want to do it, that is her escape. how should I fix it?

Horses don't come broke/trained naturally, they have to be taught. She is rearing cause that is her way of telling you she doesn't have a clue as to what you want. If you have a round pen or a very small corral and if you know how to lunge a horse do so before you get on. When you mount in the round pen work on your turns left. right circle left circle right. Work daily in the round pen until the two of you are working consistent patterns in the round with out the rearing then gradually take outside the round pen doing the same patterns and gradually broadening your horizons.
