I wasn't implying that you left them in the truck, that is just the first thing to pop in my mind, no accusations here. Hope your boys heal soon! I didn't think you were implying anything Trust me I have gone over and over the whole situation to see if I could have or should have done something different. Vet said no, it just happens. His pocket of pus keeps coming back. Of course he has only had 1 dose of meds so far, but I was hoping it would start to look better right away. We drained it last night, again this am and I just did it again. NASTY stuff. Also putting DMSO on it. Can someone explain the best way to do a hot compress? Damp towel microwaved maybe? Any other ideas? Do I just hold it on until it cools or do a wrap? The other gelding still has a hard knot, also about the same size as a pear, but no hair loss, soft spot or drainage yet showing that it has turned to an abscess. Hoping his continues to go down. Lance the bottom side of the "pocket" flush with peroxide (in a syringe) several times and then iodine tincture, should help cauterize the area inside to get the bacteria from growing. He's probably not going to like all that but......

Arriving at the last minute! Posts: 5148 Location: Kansas	I have a bunch of vaccine horror stories. Last one was late last summer with West Nile vaccine a customer had the vet give. Most problems crop up weeks after too but most do not relate it to the vaccines at that point. Good luck getting the horse healed up. I have had pretty much vaccine free horses for 15 yrs now with way better results. Less sickness and healthier horses and not all the hassles and worries.

He's probably not going to like all that but...... Yep, we did that yesterday and this morning it does look better. It is still draining some, not bad and no pus. I just need to clean the area up. All his loose hair from shedding is sticking to it as well as his mane. I wish I had braided his mane before it abscessed. It needs a good washing. Thanks for all the advice, really hope to not deal with this again.
