| myhre - 2014-04-24 9:18 PM I did maid service and I only got a tip twice once three bucks and once five and its the hardest thing I have done.
I was a housekeeper at a resort about 10 years ago. I agree, people don't realize how hard of work it really is. And I never liked being called a "maid". There were alot of people that made me feel like a second class citizen because I was a housekeeper. Tips are greatly appreciated, even if it's just a couple bucks, the job is hard and you don't get much appreciation. |

Location: I can see the end of the world from here! | As an owner of a small motel...I buy the envelopes for the housekeepers to put in the rooms...to be honest, I'm a 'little' on the fence about it because some ppl (mostly Europeans) are affronted & think I must not pay well! As an employer my motto is "If I make money....you make money"...the tip thing is more of an incentive to hk, they appreciate even $1...and I feel it encourages them to be extra clean & proud of their rooms. Actually, I've tried moving them around & they absolutely resisted...they take great pride in 'their' rooms & I also encourage them to fold the towels etc...any way they wish so long as it's nice. I have nearly zero 'turn over'. Just a note: They do need to have rooms to clean, even stayovers, to make a wage...and a good establishment will not have issues of hk going through your stuff or stealing. People sometimes leave beer, wine etc...and I buy it at market value...lol...none of the ladies that work for me drink! They sometimes get tips of $20 or more...just depends. I always tip...usually at the end of my stay, especially if I have the dnd sign out. Also, our policy is that housekeeping will go into a room after a 3 day stay (we put a note under the door to make the guest aware) to check that everythiing is ok. |

Location: North Dakota | I will tip the baggage carrier but not the house keeping. I never let them clean the room anyway I do it myself, I don't want people in my room once my things are inside. I will tip a waitress around 20% if they do a good job. If they don't refill my drink and I am constantly forced to look for them I will leave a few bucks only. |

They still have to clean your room after you checkout |

Location: ND--it snows, it floods, it snows, it floods | It really depends. A couple of weekends ago I was at a hotel and didn't have housekeeping all weekend because I had the dogs with me. At the end I left $20 for housekeeping just because of the dogs. They didn't make a mess but still, it takes extra to clean the room ect. |
