| A horse I suspected may have ulcers, had a negative result from the succeed fecal blood test.
has anyone used this test, & been successful in diagnosing if their horse had ulcers?
I do know he has allergies. I started him on a different feed and two herbs from Herbs of the World, a week and a half ago.
I would say he has improved, but he is still acting "off."
swishes his tail and will occasionally cow kick at you when saddling. which is completely out of character for him.
real sensitive in the girth area and was a little finicky of eating, so that's why I thought ulcers maybe.

Location: Bandera, TX | Hmmm.... Just going through a similar thing... Mare was acting off, poor top line, not eating everything, kicking at saddle, not riding well. She reacted to all the ulcer accupressure points. I put her on ulcer meds, even though I have been feeding ulcer preventative most of her life. She did not improve.
Then we x-rayed her back and came up with a possible kissing spine diagnosis. We did the neurological exam for EPM but she passed. I opted to test for EPM anyway. Got a strong postive EPM test back yesterday.....
I never throught she would have EPM... just throwing this out there for you to consider. |

Location: Florida | I did one came back negative. Horse has always been girthy but getting worse has been on herbal preventatives for 2 years.. Treated with Gastrix, still girthy. He looks great though. Tried a feed change. I have been thinking about EPM, just because we are int he woods and it is such a problem here. |

Can you add why it is not ?
may not be bleeding at the time of the test or too small of an amount of blood to be detected.....really only helpful if it is a positive test...... |

Location: Mississippi | I used it and got a positive result. I treated with Oxy Ulcer and now on Oxy Max. I have seen very good results. Less spookiness, and running harder again. Now I just have to readjust to the running harder - went sailing by the first barrel last weekend! We have been shutting down before we got there - lol! |

| Wildride instead of using oxymax. I would buy omeproizole from a compounding pharmancy. I used it on my gelding used a whole tube for 10 day. The tube is same amount as the name brand has 3 doses in it. When i did not have a show i went to 4 doses in a tube my gelding loved it. Pm me i will give you the name of of our board members works for,that pharmancy. And of course there is our long time board member douglas gordon and his compounded ulcer med. i was at nbha world and i ran out of my omepreizole, i bought some oxy paste and gave it my horse he did not like it well and spit it out he did not do as good with that should have bought a tube of paste for 10 bux more. |
