What is the best thing to spray pastures with that one does not have to have a license to purchase? I know some states regulate different herbicides. I wanted to do Grazon P-D but need a license to purchase. :( Also, how do you mix whatever you use?

I have a friend who works at Texas A&M Extension Office and he said to use 2-4D. You can get it at Atwoods or something like that.  Apply in late April and again in late June.  Make sure no wind or fog. He said to just put in a backpack sprayer with very low pressure and spray but we were only doing 5 acres.

I use 2-4, D with Amine and I have also used GrazonNext (not restricted) and have been happy with both for broadleaf control.  For more woody plants, blackberry canes and stuff, Remedy works well, and it's not restricted (at least in my area).

There are directions in the labeling information on how to mix it for spot spraying or for general coverage.

We spray our pastures with 2-4D. It has worked really well. My husband just mixes it in the sprayer tank we have on the 4 wheeler. Easy to mix, and easy to apply.

Put some dish soap in the tank when you spray, or a commercial surfactant. Spray before 10:00 am, or near dusk for best results. 2 four D is actually a plant hormone more than a chemicle. It is designed to work best long before the plant goes to seed. remedy, or the generic version Triclopyr seem expensive when you see the price per gallon, but are actually cheaper per acre to spray. They will kill a much broader spectrum of weeds. There are also no grazing restrictions, and will kill after the plant has gone to seed.

ForeFront is not restricted and is a newer formulation/generation of GrazonR&P.  Go to your local co-op or elevator and talk to someone in the Agronomy dept. who deals with this on a daily basis.  Or your local extension office.  Both are excellant resources for pasture management.

We use graze on as well if we have to do some weed controls on pasture land.

Your area (im drawing a blank on the job title lol) weed / seed / pasture guy should be able to help you pick the best stuff for you. Our local seed fertilizer place will also come out and do the spraying for you, if you are uncomftrotable with the chemical this might be a good way to go. It costs more but you dont have to touch it at all. But I am in canada so I could be out to lunch for you lol.
