Teach about the story of the talking donkey, I think it is in Numbers chapter 24ish.  It can be pretty exciting if you tell it right.  It happened in a place called ****tim.   That should get their attention for at least a second.

I've done it every Sunday for years and years

Some of my favorites:
1. Bring in the ingredients for a cookie, and eat them one at a time. Pour out the cooking oil, and replace with green tea. It'll impress people. They'll think you drank oil.
Moral-----Just like individually the ingredients for a cookie are not appetizing, when they are mixed together they are awesome, so are the events of our life. Taken individually there sometimes bad, but when god mixes them together it ends up great

2. Bring in a great big nail, a medium size nail, and a roofing nail. Tell a story about how the physical churc is held together by nails. Each doing their own job. Then explain how if the tiniest nail, the roofing nail were to get pulled away, the entire sanctuary would be ruined. Relate that to how we all have a job to do, and the spiritual part of the church suffers when we don't do our part

That's two, I got more if you need them.

Just thought of another favorite.

Put a tennis ball in an empty peanut butter jar, and cover it with dry pinto beans. Dump it all in a mixing bowl when you start telling the story. Pretend each bean is something you are interested. Keep adding beans as you tell them your intrest out in life. Eventually fill the jar with the beans, and then tell them God is the tennis ball, and he is the most important. The problem is God want fit. Dump the jar again, putting God first then the beans. It will all fit this way. God has to come first.

This is fun, sorry I just keep going. Maybe favorite of all time:

I bring in a milk chug, and a honey bun

I also bring a jar of jalapeΓ±os , and a bottle of hot sauce. I dump out the hot sauce, and replace with tomato juice.

I have it all out where they can see it. I start talking about choices we make in life, and how important they are. When I get to a point where I can bring up that there is only right and wrong, no gray areA I open the jalapeΓ±os, and eat some. I the. Say people make bad choices all the time, and try to fix it them selves. I the. Chug down some hot sauce. I the. Say some people make the same bad choices over, and over. I then eat more jalapeΓ±os, and drink more hot sauce. Then I say how easy it is to make good choices with prayer, and guidance. I pick up the honey bun and milk. The. I say, but some people don't ask for Gods help. I then hit the jalapeΓ±os, and hot sauce again. You get the idea.

Here's one I'm thinking about, but haven't finished, maybe you can turn it into your own. If you try hard enough, you can remove the fortune from a fortune cookie, and make it say what ever you want. Not sure what direction I want to go with that, but I'll do it soon. Maybe only God knows the future. Trust him, and not what people tell you. IDK. It's just one I've been thinking about.

This is a very unique one, I like it!

I watched a lady do a lesson with water and food coloring about sin and our souls. She would put in a primary color and mix it so all of the water was one color and then another to make a different color. It was still pretty but as she added more and more colors it became an ugly brown color and was dark. No light could be let in so their soul could shine. I don't have the lesson plan but you could use the example and make it your lesson. Good luck!!

I have been a Sunday school teacher several times for years.
Teach a simple Christ centered message that they can understand.  Have several creative activities that the kids can perticipate in doing things, depending on the ages of the kids.  Older they are the more creative you need to get.  PM me if you want a few ideas.

My mom teaches the children's message quite often at church. What she does is find out what the sermon is about that day, and she makes the children's message around it. she also usually gets something to hand out for them that has something to do with the service. she orders stuff off Oriental Trading CO a lot
