Just as the subject line says, how do you tell if a Billy Cook Saddle made in a Greenville, TX, is a good one or not? I know the story about theie move to OK, but still not sure how to tell if a Greenville one is a good one or not? Is there a way to tell by looking at them? Thanks!

From my experience, most of them made in Greenville are not good. I wouldn't waste my time with one.

I have 2 Billy Cooks made in Ok and I absolutely love them. I have had no experience with the ones made in Greenville after they bought out Billy Cook but have heard basically the same thing as the previous posts. Not good saddles.

I had a Greenville Tx BC Roper I liked alright - it was about right for the price range IMO. You can do a lot better used with that price range, and you can do a lot worse. The Sulphur OK ones are better saddles overall though.

Well I knew the original Billy Cook was in Greenville originally, then went to Sulfur, OK, but wasn't sure how you tell if it was an original Billy Cook from Greenville versus the newer Billy Cooks from Greenville. Thanks for your info, though!

the good ones from Greenville are old. ; ) He sold his name in the late 80s. The saddles stamped "billy cook maker  Greenville, TX"  are the originals. The ones not made by Billy Cook are stamped "Billy Cook Saddlery".

Incidentally, Charon Caldwell told me they worked for Billy Cook way back before he sold out in the 80s.

My Billy Cook barrel saddle has the stamp in the seat that says Billy Cook Harness Greenville, TX. What does the Harness tell?

I have a BC Rooer made in Greenville i bought barely used in 1996 and a new one I bought in 2006 that was made in Sulphur. They both say Billy Cook Maker and I can tell no difference in the way they are made. I just always assumed the Greenville one was not the real BC but maybe it is, no matter tho, both good saddles.
