I believe I have myself a horse (finally... and I hope I'm not jinxing it!).  I will be getting him tomorrow evening and he will be staying at my parents in a large lot (with grass) until my husband and I can finish getting the area he will be staying in fenced off.  I'm hoping he can get put on our place this weekend and no later than next weekend.

How long should you give a horse to settle into a new place before trying to gradually switch feeds?

He is currently on a 1:1 ratio of Purina Strategy Healhy Edge and Sweet Feed.  I know that sweet feed is considered bad for horses so I want to wean him completely off that and then get him off the Healthy Edge and on to the Strategy that is geared more towards proformance horses.

How long should I give him to settle (assuming I wait until he's moved offiically to my house where I can monitor him 24/7) into his new surroundings before I start switching?

When I do start the switching process should I first eliminate the sweet feed and get him soley on Healthy Edge before switching to (performance) Strategy?  Or is it okay to keep his normal ratio and then slowly move him over to 100% Strategy?

First of all Congrats!

You can start changing feed at any time, but IMO it's least disruptive to his system if you wait until he's where he's going to be permanently.

I usually allow for a full week to gradually change the feed over. Each day add more of the new feed and less of the old feed until they're completely changed over by the end of the week.
