Location: 31 lengths farms | I dewormed with a ivermectin dewormer about 2 weeks ago, I always do that and then follow with Quest Plus a week or two later. Forgot to hit them with the Quest. This weekend I was looking at them thinking "you guys look like crap, your winter hair is hanging on". Then light dawned on Marble Head and I remembered that the dewormer was sitting there in the tack room, LOL!!! I feel bad, I realized too, that I haven't brushed a tail or mane in about 3 months so they all look unkept. Trust me though, under the unkept, is full bellies, regular trims and or shoeings, vaccine, can't claim the same on the deworming this time however . I'm just glad the rain has let up and I can see their feet and fetlocks! |

Location: 31 lengths farms | LOL, I have made myself a promise that regardless of whether they are getting ridden currently or not, they will get brushed and feet picked out at least 3 times a week. The mares are very into their looks, the gelding, not so much. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | So have actually been keeping my promise to get out and brush everyone, even CC who is not being ridden right now due to the injury to her left hind. All my horses are turned out 24/7, just came off the wettest winter in 25+ years. I think she looks pretty darn fantastic. What I have found seems to work for her is her grass hay, renew gold and oats feed, a half scoop of the Total Support from Cur-ost (any more than that she tends to lose weight, tried the EQ Plus that is recommended for Hard Keepers but she seems to do better on the half dose of TS...only my horse right???) ENC Kidney Herb, ACV and Equisure, now called Zesterra (sp). Its been a roller coaster ride but this girl and I are in it to win it!

Location: 31 lengths farms | Like I said, we started the Equisure last fall after dealing with 2 bladder infections one right after the other and I didn't want to keep her on antibiotics full time if I could help it. The Equisure/Zesterra has Collidial Silver in it and I figured it was worth a shot. Knock on wood, she hasn't had a bladder infection since starting it . Her bell boots are a little worse for wear, she had torn the one off and looked like she had tried to "kill" it so duct taped it back together, she's always up to something. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | So haven't updated in a while but so far CC is continuing to do well. Still on her daily dose of ENC Kidney herbs, half dose of Total from Cur_ost and Equisure which is now named Zesstera. Wanted to update also because an aquaitance of mine recently had her horse diagnosed with kidney failure/issues and the vet specifically said he believed it was caused by a build up or toxicity to the NSAID medicine that was being used. One that I had used on CC also, Previcox. Her horse had been on it on and off for the last 5 months. I use it also on my gelding for long weekends but I have learned my lesson and he is never on it for more than 7 days even though Equioxx is labeled for what, 14 days? Anyway, my new protocol after this will be to run a weeks worth of the kidney herbs thru my gelding also after a regimen of NSAIDs and I know my friend's vet recommended that any horse she has on any NSAIDS have a blood work up at least once a year to check for any issues with kidneys.
Anyway, not meaning to scare or start rumors just want to give any one interested a heads up. |

I applaud your dedication to CC and to informing the community about everything you are learning each step of the way. My hat is off to you. I hope to be just as active in my horse's health as you are with your two. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Just want to share as much information as I can. Also for those that use how your horse is clocking as a way to see how they are feeling, my friend's gelding had been starting to clock in the 1D pretty consistently, in fact had again a few days before she took him in. He was lethargic and wasn't eating well. He normally is an escape artist to find food, at first they chalked it up to having run hard and it being very hot. Thankfully she knows her gelding well and decided there was something more going on.

Location: 31 lengths farms | Just another quick update, CC made it thru a very hot summer with no bladder infections!!! ENC Kidney Herbs, Cur-Ost and Zesstera. First summer I haven't had to pour the feed to her to help maintain weight. Her coat looks good, she is being her typical naughty self in the pasture which makes my heart happy, and moving well on the leg she injured late last fall. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | CC has been running around like a bat out of he** in her pasture. The other day I saddled her up and walked a few large circles in her pasture, yelled for Dave to come watch. I couldn't feel any short stride or ouchiness, wanted him to keep an eye out also. He sat down on the hillside right next to the path I walk 2x a day to check water in the stock tank...and sitting there is a penny. One of my mom's favorite little sayings was "See a penny pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck". Cried like a baby, momma was watching as well.
