Selling a breeding

I was going to breed my mare, but I'm moving soon and decided it may not be the best thing at the moment. The breeder said she doesn't mind if I sell the breeding since I had already paid for it in full. Whats the best way to go about selling it? Should I make up a contract for it if I sell it... or just have them sign the breeding contract with the stud owner? Never done this before so not sure how you exactly go about selling a breeding

I will tell you that I tried to sell a breeding, and people didn't want any part of it because you are basically going off the seller's word that the stallion owner will honor it. Unless you get a written and signed document from the stallion owner stating that the breeding is fully transferable.

Ugh yeah I felt like this could turn into a pain. The stallion owner is really nice. Do you think I could just have them contact her and sign a contract then ask for the payment?

I would advertise your breeding saying that the stallion owner has approved of the sale and can verify that. I have bought a couple of breedings this way from people selling.

Be prepared you are going to loose money on the breeding, unless the stallion is popular and already fully booked

I sold a breeding I got in partial trade for a broodmare. I didn't need it at that point. The stallion owner sent me a contract with the changes made to the verbage, initialed. I took out an ad here on BHW and I got it sold for nearly the face value of the stud fee. Everyone is happy as far as I know.

Yeah I expected I would. I figure 95% of people have bred or have a stud picked out at least for this yr. Something is better than nothing lol It is what it is.

Its new upcoming stud, I didn't pay fortune for the stud fee so that why I'm not too overly upset about being out of some money. Figure if I get a few hundred for the stud fee.. sweet!
