Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | Who has used Sliver Lining Herbs Mare Moods before? I was just wanting to know your experience with it. I have a cranky mare and am looking for something to make her not such a crazy witch at times. Something to settle her a little. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any input :) |

| I've never used those but I do use raspberry leaves on mine. She is still a royal B*&^% when she's in heat but it does make me feel better knowing she is taking something 
The only thing if you are hauling, don't put them in baggies, if you get pulled over, you will have a lot of explaining to do LOL |

Location: California | I used them on my mare and then switched to Mare Magic just because I use SmartPaks. I have had good luck with SLH and was happy with the results (which is why I continued on with a supplement) for my mare. I did have my mare fully examined by a repro specialist at UC Davis before treating her with supplements. She checked out fine and I wanted to try the herbal path before trying Regumate or something more invasive. Glad I did! |

Location: TN | I tried a different Silver Lining Herbs formula (#12 feet and bone), but my horse didn't like it. It has a strong herbal smell. He's not picky at all, but it was obvious he didn't like this. There are probably other options I would pursue first (like the vet) before trying supplements. |

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | Thanks for the opinions and advice. This gives me something to definitely go on. And what would I look for at the vet's? Like what kind of tests would I ask for. I don't think there is a great horse vet close to me so I'd have to go to the cow vet that specializes in AI and breeding of cows. With her I have to know what I want done, otherwise it's like the blind leading the blind :/ |

Hrmmmm well ... I'd start by ultra sounding her ovaries and uterus/ lady bits. Cow vets who AI should have that technology. You are basically looking for abnormalities in her repro tract. I might also have a general soreness exam done, especially down her spine. You'd be looking for tightness, tension, things out of place, etc. It might be worth your time to haul to someone who is more familiar with that type of anatomy on a horse than working with a cow vet ... think specialties here.
I have had good luck using raspberry leaves. I've done regumate and even dropped a marble in a jr rodeo mare when we were growing up ... The longer I feed the leaves, the better my mare does on it. And yes, she is classified as down right nuts when she's in heat and not on something. :)
ETA - spelling corrected and that I have not had any issues getting my mare to eat the leaves.
