| Pictures of your horse? Head level, squared up decently, no tack so we can see his build.
I have a big wide shouldered gelding with medium withers and ordered a Crown C for him.
ETA: You can try one if you give Martin a call and ask for a demo - they do it for free and are wonderful to work with!

Location: NC | You should look into the PSC saddles formaly known as H3. They are amazing quality and have several tree options both in width and twist or bars. https://www.facebook.com/PerformanceSaddleCompany |

Location: Where I am happiest | Martin Crown C's come in a variety of gullet sizes. My daughters horse has big shoulders and the Crown C in a 8 1/2 inch gullet fits him perfectly. She ordered it from a store in Oregon and they have a full return policy within 3 days if it doesnt fit. They also offered free shipping. Also check out the Caldwell. Pro Max,or Maxxed out. Caldwell's are the top of the line cadilac of saddles and they hold their resale value like non other. |

| I just got rid of my Caldwell Rocket because it kept sliding back on my open horse and made his back really sore. LOVED my TG that I had though for my retired gelding... Guess I've been spoiled for the last 10 years with my Caldwell TG. |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | They are designed to sit further back on the horse, behind their shoulder. Some people are not used to this. And also, you horse will probably need a wider gullet than you think.....a lot of people are used to 7 in gullets on every saddle. I would consider my horse pretty average size for a barrel horse and he has a 10 inch gullet on his saddle. There are a lot of Crown C's for sale on the internet etc because people buy the wrong gullet size at first and then end up needing a larger one. |

| I am used to the way the Caldwell's sit higher on the shoulder and he already was in a 7 1/2 gullet and it slide back BAD! So how would I go about measuring him for the correct gullet in a Crown C?? |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | Well the whole theory behind these saddles is that they sit behind the shoulder as to allow freedom of movement and not pinch and put all the weight on the horses shoulder, thus allowing them to reach further and turn better. Most horses have atrophy in their wither/shoulder area from poor saddle fit. Their backs should be even from their shoulder through the loin, ie no dips etc. So at first when you get one of these saddles you have to shim the front to fill in where your horse has muscle atrophy. Sherry Cervi explains it on the Crown C website. Like I said, it is a whole different train of thought when fitting these saddles. But once people try them, they usually like them. I love mine. I know there are a lot of Crown C fans here on BHW also. http://www.martinsaddlery.com/Default.aspx?p=saddles&sId=10 |

I watched the one video of her's and it makes complete sense when you think about it. I called Equibrand to talk with them about the demo program, but I got referred to a rep around this area who is still a good 3 1/2 hours away from me. I found a Crown C that I really like, but the gullet is a 7" and the Caldwell i had was a 7 1/2" and it slid back something horrible!! I shouldn't have done this to myself , but now I am completely with out and saddle and kind of in a time crunch. I just had to have his hocks injected because of the poor fitting saddle and I don't want to just throw anything on his back just so I can ride. So now I'm starting to hit panic mode! |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | I understand how you feel! I had to sell my saddle to be able to buy the Crown C so I was without a saddle for about a month. But I just looked at it as even though I couldn't run for a while it was better for my horse in the long run. I hope it works out for you! |
