:Horse breaths funny
I just bought a new horse a couple of days ago and now noticed the last couple of times I took her out of the stall to eat grass that when her head is down she breaths funny. almost a labored breathing in her throat, could this be a big issue. I didn't hear any breathing problems when I rode her or when her head is up.

Get her flapper scoped ... it could have had surgery on it or be partially paralyzed ....
Horses with flapper problems should eat off the ground due to helping their food go to the stomach and not into their lungs ...
GOOD LUCK ..

Just bumping this up to see if there are any more suggestions. My gelding does make a louder noise breathing when he eats grass, too. I thought he was just excited about eating grass:
),but maybe it's something else.

My good gelding does the same thing. He makes a lot of noise when he has his dead down. He has what is considered a "restricted" airway. He has been scoped and vetted several times and thankfully does not displace or have flapper issues. He is however a bleeder.
I would just keep a very close eye on this horse, and definitely consider getting her scoped and vetted.

I have one who does this and she has pharyngeal cicatrix. She had a flare up a few years ago, and was so swollen she displaced her soft palate. when we got the swelling down her palate went back in it's place but I think her scarring has gotten worse. I am going to get her scoped next week and see what it looks like. She makes the noise when she has her head down eating grain too.
That's why I asked where you lived.. cicatrix is a regional thing and I was curious if you were along the gulf coast.
