Expert Posts: 1367 Location: mi	my 3 year old has fractured one of the bones in his pastern. They are not recommending any type of surgical fix thankfully they think it will heal on it's own with 2-3 months of stall rest. I have been looking up any supplements that I think might help to speed up the healing as he has never been kept in a stall for more then a couple days at a time so am really hoping to cut it to the 2 month mark verses the 3. Anyways I have narrowed it down to Duraplex by Kentucky Equine research or Osteon By Platinum Performance. Does anyone have any experience with any of these for this type of injury. And does anyone know if I HAVE to feed the PP with the Osteon as it would be WAY less expensive it I didn't need that add on. Thanks for any tips!

Expert Posts: 3514	I would get the Platinum CJ and add osteon. Give 1/2 scoop of the osteon with the CJ morning and night. I would also use Ice Vibe boots and Respond laser .

Expert Posts: 1367 Location: mi	Why the CJ? I am alittle worried about him handling the stall rest so I don't want to add anything that will make him feel too good. Yet I still want to b able to try to help it heal so I can get him at least back out to pasture sooner. Work can wait til next year.

Expert Posts: 3514	The CJ has the joint products he needs but just not enough if the osteon for a injury. The osteon level in the CJ is a maintenance dose. This is what the company recommended when I had a horse with a fracture. You can always call Platinum and see what the reccomend. They have great customer service.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1034	I have one who had a subluxated Pastern. My vet changed his trim angle with the farrier, put him on stall rest, and had me give him the loading dose of Cosequin ASU. Worked wonders.
