I know I don't see much of them in the barrel racing industry.. why is this?  Too much extra weight?

I don't want to ride in another brand of pad (currently in 5 Stars), just want something a little more flashy to throw over top of it.

Any brand suggestions?  I love the Yucca Flats ones, but they might just be a tad bit too expensive.

IMO saddle blankets are just to darn expensive to do anything but show with! I ride reiners and we ONLY use blankets if we a truly showing. We use ESP pads if we are schooling or loping through a pattern. The only ones I have found are worth the money are Yucca Flats. All the rest fall apart too quickly.

Thanks!!

My horse is black... with black Iconoclasts, black bell boots, black saddle pad and black blah, blah, blah ,blah...... looking to add some color for him without going the bling route just yet!!  He's gonna need to win some $$ before I start spending on more "extras" lol!  Was hoping there were some cheaper alternatives to the Yucca's, but I guess you get what you pay for with them!

I used to use them! I had a very flashy sorrel paint and put him in a bright red saddle blanket. red everything. it was really hard to miss him.

Now i really don't care anymore and just don't want to take extra crap with me. my pretty show saddle blankets turned into dog beds or blankets for us watching the races. They do look excellent folded up on the ground with a big ham of a mini aussie sleeping on it. I also like the look of a quality leather trimmed wool pad and a saddle. I'm weird I know.
