Does anyone know how long it usually takes for a mare to start cycling again after pulling them off regumate?

I haven't done this awhile so I might be a little off here. We would do 10 days of regumate and on day 11 give estrumate. Then they should be ready to breed around 7 days give or take after the shot.

I ask because we were trying to breed an older mare. She's 22. After inseminating vet had us start her on regumate immediatelly. When after the second attempt ( second cycle ) she was reacting to the semen really badly. When we took her back in to be preg checked on the second attemp he said she was not in foal but had a cyst. In fact he had to double check the breed dates to make sure it was smaller then it should be at a 17 day embryo. So we switched mares to collect the breeding as he felt trying a third time would not be conducive to this mare. So we stopped the regumate on her. This was june 2. She still has not come back into heat.
This is a big, BIG mare and of all mares to mis a embryo this is the type. When I asked about flushing embryos from her he said he would be willing to try but she's so big, her uterus is so big flushing at 8 days would be very difficult. Now that she has not come back into heat, I'm wondering if in fact he did mis it.....or if it's not unusual to go 20 days post regumate without cycling. ??????

Is she the type that normally shows heat? Some of my mares never stand so without ultrasound I wouldn't know they were in. A normal cycle is 21 days so she should have cycled. I think that regumate should be completely out of their system 48 hours after the last dose.

There could be a pregnancy or there might be something else reproductively going on causing her to not cycle. An ultrasound would sure put your mind at ease.

Thankyou for that info!
I could always tell when she was in heat. She always shows well without a doubt. The repro vet is 2 hours away so thats why I ask before thinking about loading her up and heading up there. It's a pain in the a$$ and a good 5 hours out of the day. lol. I guess I should be making an appointment to get her rechecked.

Wait until you go back to the vet to get your other mare checked. At this point it won't matter when you get her ultrasounded so you can save time and money. Sometimes a pregnancy can be hard to find at 13 days but I think it's pretty rare to be missed later than that. Even if she's not bred it would be good to see if something is going on in case you decide to try to flush next year. Get her figured out now, put her under lights in late November, and start the ET process in mid-February.
