I've never looked at an LQ but I've looked at a lot of trailer brakes and they all had disk brakes. It's just a matter of pulling the tire off and looking at the pads.
If you have more than one axle you don't even need a jack. Just pull one tire up on a block and the other one comes off the ground.

I had a blowout that took out some of the brake wiring, one wheel was smelling really hot.  I took it to get looked at and the wiring was fried and they  said the brake pads also needed replacing.  I just had them done last year, had the thought that they might be trying to make a buck.

Well... If you could smell it and it wasn't' the wheel bearing, then it was a pad sticking and it does not take much of that to wear out a set of pads.
