Not a lot of people in Vermont use them.
That being said - OP, if you have one on your saddle and it's not doing anything because it's just hanging there too loose, either take if off, or use it properly. Ever seen a horse kick at a fly and slip a rear hoof through a loose fitting rear cinch? It isn't pretty. Use it snug/correctly or don't use one at all.
What town in Vermont do you live? I'll be traveling through there soon. |

Location: Land Of Oz | I don't think it's necessarily a regional thing. Lots of people here don't use them (Kansas). I use one every saddle and snug. Having a loose back cinch is as silly as having a loose front cinch. |

Location: Jersey Girl | I used a back cinch on my grey mare when she really started running hard. Other then that, no, I do not use one. |

Use them on myΒ Camarillo'sΒ - never put one on my treeless.. as a matter of fact I haven't seen anyone use them on a treeless.
Which is weird because if your horse bucks or trips in a treeless they typically will fold up on your without a back cinch
I run in a treeless on a few horses and I couldn't imagine it not having a rear cinch.
I have run with and without one, and I definitely prefer having a back cinch on my treeless saddle. The back doesn't pop up with one. I use a snug back cinch, it doesn't do anything if it's loose. |
