Had an abscess cause the entire leg to swell? Im dealing with that right now. My vet isnt sure if the abscess is causing the swelling or if its secondary. Does anyone has experience with this? How long recovery?

Peecans
Yes but it was an incredible bad abscess and it broke open on the corner band and caused wounds and holes over 3/4 of the band.
He was lame for over a month, once it all drained he was ok, a bit sore from walking funny but he was fine. I missed the last two rodeos and the finals that year and I sold him that winter a few years back. Hes still running and working like a rock star.

Yes, twice. Both times, the abscess was on the back of the hoof. Treated with antibiotics and hoof soaks and it cleared up.

Been there done it with several horses...hate it for them. They were being used to gather cattle and rodeo on the weekend.
