I got a pretty nifty offer letter to try out some cool trucks for some races! Of course I want to try out the best ones on the lot, but I noticed all of the 1 ton dodges are listed as 6 cylinders. there are duallys, regular pick ups, etc... all of them only have 6 cylinders. Does this effect the towing ability? or are those trucks more for lookin at then workin?

and if they are just for lookin at... that's an awfully big gas bill for something to look cool!

 Yes.

They pull like a dream.  Our 2004 would pull anything we hooked to it and got great mileage.

They are inline engines, so not your typical "V" style. They are supposed to have less wear and tear, which probably contributes to their longevity.

Ford and Chevy use a V-8 diesel
Dodge uses a in-line 6 cyl diesel
They all will pull better than a gas engine
It just is how much you pull in a year if its worth haveing a diesel

All Cummins's (to my knowledge, maybe different in semi trucks) are 6 cylinders. Powerstrokes are V8s.

It is am inline six, plus turbo. Mine will burn the tires off, with my programmer. Those engines have been in use in a lot of different equipment for years. They are very good engines. Have had 4 or 5. mine is one of the last 5.9s.
