I am trying to sell my CJ but I keep getting people that want the 8" gullet. I did not think cactus even make a CJ with a 8" gullet, but just looking around I am seeing ALOT advertised as such though. I thought the saddle only came in a 6 1/2" and a 7". Am I measuring completely wrong?

I could be mistaken, but I thought I saw somewhere that the "correct" way to measure would be at the spot where the conchos are, not the very top?

But, the easiest solution would be to ask where they would like you to measure from, and you can give that measurement. If a prospective buyer would measure where you show you are measuring, give that measurement. If they want you to give them the measurement further down, because that's the measurement they know they need, give 'em that one. haha!

The only way to get a true gullet measurerment is on a bare tree, call the saddlery that made this saddle and ask them what the gullet measurements are on this saddle.

To measure a gullet properly it is actually where the bars and pommel meet and cannot be done once the tree is made but is done at during the creation of the tree.

As someone said ask the potential buyer where they would like it measured, as Martin is the only one who makes the larger gullets, most other tree makers have flare in the bars which allows more shoulder movement.

I had both measurements pictured with my ad. I personally like too see both measurements, but I thought the top was the gullet and level with the conchos was more of a measurement of the "flare" of a saddle. We have a saddle here that is most definitely a 6 1/2" (per the tree maker), but if you measure where the conchos are its an 8.5".

I googled it and even though cactus is not making the CJ there is a "cached" page for the saddle
Features:

Tree: Wood, Fiberglass Coated

Tree Warranty: Ten Years

Bars: Quarter Horse or Full Quarter Horse

Gullet Height: 7-3/4”

Gullet Width: 6-1/2” or 7”

Cantle Height: 4”

Weight: 28 lbs (approx.)

So I must be measuring in the right spot, if I measured down further it would be 8+?

I ride CJ saddles and when I see them advertised for sale as 8" it drives me nuts.  People don't know what the heck they are talking about.
