Just got home from the vet, sometime between 8pm and 7am my horse tore his tendon and tendon sheath, lost a lot of blood but the vet got him sutured up. He is worried about infection setting in the sheath as he said he has never been able to fix it. Are horses rideable after something like this if we can get him healed and healthy again?

My 4 year old split the point of her hock and ruptured the tendon sheath 2 years ago.  She had to have surgery to save her future performance career.  They debrided the part that was necrotic, closed her up with a drain and IV antibiotics for 10 days, and then she spent 7 weeks on stall rest with her hock wrapped to keep it clean, and had an additional 14 days of oral antibiotics.  She's totally sound but it looks ugly.  The older mare that belongs to my daughter went through much the same thing a few years ago and is also sound, even though it stays puffed up.

Had a mare cut her front leg and the tendon was cut, but not all the way. We couldn't afford surgery, so the vet sewed it up, IVed her antibiotics for a few days and we picked her up. I immediately put her on Platinum Performance. I called them to find out how much to feed her. We now can ride her. The vet was impressed with how quickly she healed.

Thanks for the feedback, if I got it correct it is cut vertically? The vet is worried about infection setting in the tendon sheath and it was so much going on I wasn't all there in my head. I think the vet nerved him as well..
