Firstly I have to brag on my little mare, took to barrels like nobodys business! And I loped through a series for the first time in years!! No longer just a armchair barrel racer!!!

Anyway my mare is a finished heel horse and has been down the road, so I dont for see seasoning being too bad (hopefuly because seasoning a horse blows some days lol) anyway my question:

She hates leg protection, 90% of the time bell boots and skid boots are ok, when your working, just wating she stomps alot and kicks out and shake her feet.
Sports boots are a huge disaster, she act like her feet are tied together she strikes she kicks and she would track pefrectly at a buck. We have put them on and led her lose in the round pen for hours on end with ZERO improvement, id even say she got worse.

Shes going to be very quick and low in her turns and I really want to protect her. Was thinking of trying polos. (I can wrap very well but a mouse made a nest of mine :-()

Has anybody had a horse hate protection this much? And what did you do?

I have a horse that hates sports boots so I use the leather splint boots and he seems ok with them plus his legs don't get near as hot.

Ive tried a couple types of splints on her, the closed and open front and she was the same.

What kind do you use? The open fronts are the leather jumping ones with fleece type liner and the others are classic equine.
Maybe shed like a different style?

If she doesn't hit then just don't use them.  If she uses her back end a lot i would just use bells and leather skid boots.

I am running a horse that hates any type of leg protection.  She has started letting me put front polos on, but they have to be the thin ones.  If I am running at a barrel race, I only use bells, but if I am at a rodeo with iffy ground I will put polos on.

I like useing Splint boots if I have a horse that dont like the Sports boots, I have a pair of leather ones that I love but they are just about had it, the buckles ad straps are worn out. But I do have other pairs that I use all the time.

I used the Ed Galemba, sorry if the spelling is wrong, leather ones. They are a little different than the open front jumping boots, and they didn't have fleece lining. Yes, they are like classic equine, so they wouldn't work probably, sorry. Let us know if you find something that works, though.

Della, go to smartpaks, they have saratoga wraps. Maybe they are the same as SG is talking about. The shipping would be much better if they are.

There are lots of people who don't use boots.  You might try running her with nothing and see if she really needs them or if they are a hinderance.

I had a mare just like you're talking about, she stomped and stomped. Super nice mare, tried and tried sport boots, put them on every day for a month with no improvement, gave up and started using polos. Had no problems since.

The horse I bought would tolerate boots on his fronts but he was the same way with back boots. He would kick and not like them. The lady I bought him from would use polo wraps and that seemed to help. She used CE Legacy boots on the front. I don't do polo wraps so I switched to the Pro Choice VenTech hind boots with really good luck. He seems to be ok with them since they are thinner and move easier. Good luck!

I would try polos if she doesn't like boots. That said, my gray didn't like back boots as a 4 year old but I rode him in them a few times just around home and he got over not liking them before too long, so now I can run him with polos or with boots if I'm short on time.
