Location: North of where I want to be | We have a dog who thinks she is a gopher! She has literally dug up all of our flower beds. leaving me in a few places 3 ft deep holes to back fill. She has killed off every critter imaginable that is any where near our yard, so I don't believe she is digging for critters. I am open to any suggestions on how to deter this as I am tired of filling in holes. |

Location: Southeast Louisiana | Put her poop in the holes then fill them in. You can also sprinkle cayenne pepper on top. It should stop her from digging in the same spot again. You can also give her her own sandbox to dig in. Hide toys in there and redirect her digging activities so she knows there is only one acceptable place to dig. |

If it is hot where you are, get a kiddy pool and put water in it for her to lay in. If she is bored, she needs more exercise/training time. When I say exercise, I mean with you in charge of what she is doing, not just turning out in the yard.
Filling the holes with her poop will only prevent her from digging up that space again for awhile, it won't stop her from digging. |

Location: Pacific Northwest | You know I've always heard that dogs only dug when they were bored or weren't getting enough stimulation, but I have a dog that dug because she was literally hunting for things underground. We have 125 acres and she was loose all the time, and ALL that dog did (well, still does, she's 12 and she's only slowed down a little bit - she doesn't dig anymore at least) was hunt. Birds, ducks, bunnies, moles, rats, nothing was safe at our house. It didn't matter how much we reprimanded her, she still dug because she was hellbent on getting whatever was underground.
I have no advice because she stopped on her own as she got older. She's basically blind now and still trucks all around the whole property trying to find things to pounce on haha. She's a german wire haired pointer. |

| Not what I would do personally, but when I was young we had a dog that dug holes in the yard. My grandfather filled them with water and dunked his head in it. He learned pretty quick that digging meant he was going to get dunked. He stopped. But that is a bit extreme. |
