I just had my mares SI injected, we are thinking she has been sore for quite a while due to issues in her front feet.  She would seem better after time off but would progressivly get worse when we put her back to work, so I am guessing turn out does not solve SI issues?

Anyways, just wanting ideas on how to strengthen that area and keep her form getting sore again.  I have no hills but I can drag tires or a log as a substitute for hill work.  Any tips on what not to do would also be helpful, never have had a horse with SI issues before so this is new territory for me.

From what I've been told you "have" to inject the SI to remove the inflammation...turning them out won't fix it.  If she stays sore after the injection, then that wasn't the problem.

As a side note:  Large doses of steroids have been shown to trigger EPM.  I have had to treat two of mine shortly after SI injections.  I don't know if EPM was the original problem or if the injection triggered it, but I won't inject another one without treating them for EPM as well.

Also, to answer your other question...

Lots of backing and trotting collected over ground poles will help. Any exercises that you can think of that will make them engage their rear end and drive under themselvs.

That is so weird. I am taking my mare in on
Monday for treatment and I just had he SI injected
in July. I never saw anything exasperated. She wasn't low or really high on her titer but Kstate
Suggested still treating her. Were yours showing epm signs before and they were exasperated
With the injections? Curious I was just wondering the same thing earlier this week.

Yes.  Mine were showing unidentified lameness/soreness in the rear end that the vet wanted to fix with injections and bute.  Once they were injected they got much worse.

Edited to add:  Neither have needed injections of any kind since they have been treated.

Thanks for the responses!  I am currently treating her for EPM, midway thru the second month of Diclazuril, Levamisole, Vit E combo.
