Location: Kansas | Any tips on how to effectively put weight on a gelding? My new 3 year old sunfrost/streaking six gelding needs weight, he isn't terribly underweight...but his topline is very perdominant and he is a bit ribby. I'm worming him tonight with pancur, and I've got him on a round bale of brome. Feed suggestions? I have calf manna, safechoice perform, and beet pulp....should I switch feeds??

I have an alfalfa pelleted grain, around here it's hard to get ahold of alfalfa in my area without traveling a few hours.
Should the pelleted grain work? |

Location: Oklahoma | look at a product by Adeptus called Gleam and Gain. There are two formulas. The Original 41 and the 60. Valley vet sells both. It will help put weight on. I feed timothy hay pellets in the morning and safe choice original in the evening. Mine are also on round bales of bermuda. |

I've never fed the pellets, so I honestly don't know. I have used Muscle Mass and seen great results. I mix it in their grain with a little vegetable oil and they really bloom. |

Lots of changes going on with teeth at this age. I would check that, add some alfalfa to slow the Brome grass down some in the hind gut and raise the total protein some. Worming, and Renew Gold at one and one half pound per day until he is carrying the condition you want, then back down to one pound per day. Easy fix. |

His teeth were done by an equine dentist in april I believe his previous owners said. He was in a feed lot for 60-90 days, and they rode him hard. |

pellets or cubes will definitely work.
To bring my mare back I used to soak beet pulp and alfalfa in my shop overnight. Then feed in the mornings. Keep hay in front of him and work up to feeding the beet pulp/alfalfa twice a day.
You'll see results. Maybe take pictures once a week to track the progress? I know its hard to sit back and watch/wait on 'em.

awww poor baby :( THE GastroPLUS is super affordable for ulcers and then you can add the ulcer prevent to the Muscle Mass. |
