I like the ardmore area. I really like north of ardmore in the arbuckle mountains. Is there anyone that can fill me in on cost of living, state tax, the area, land, just general info about the area? It also seems more Rural then where I am at in TX and I WANT morse rural. Hows the barrel racing up there? Finding places to rent w/ horses?

Real estate taxes are cheaper in oklahoma than texas. Further north of ardmore there is a neat little town called pauls valley where in the summer they have jackpots. It is also about 60 miles from Oklahoma city. There is always a barrel race going on within a couple hrs away or closer. There is horse properties for sale on small and larger acreage. Oklahoma is very affordable.

A good real estate agent can answer most of your questions. Marianne Lee or Larry Kerbs are both agents who own horses (cutting). They are out of Ardmore with ReMax realtors. There are jackpots to go to within 50 miles of Ardmore just about every week night and larger ones within 150/200 miles on the weekends.

Ardmore area is Carter County, then you travel north Murray and Garvin counties...
if you google land for sale in those counties you can pretty much see the cost of acreages...
Renting is next to impossible with land.. Hate to be the bearer of bad news there, but finding a rental with land is rare, in fact I haven't heard of anything for rent in years that has land...
Plenty of races around

We live NW of OKC. When we moved here from southern California, I thought we'd have NO problem finding rental property with acreage for horses seeing how it's Oklahoma... BOY, were we wrong. Talk about nothing! We rented in a subdivision for the first year. We stumbled accross the 5 acres were are in now by pure luck. We had placed a wanted ad on Craigslist and the property owner contacted us about it.

Property taxes are cheaper than Texas because Texas does not have a state income tax, like Oklahoma.

I live in shawnee and love it!!! No matter where you choose. Within an hour from oklahoma city, you are guaranteed to find a jackpot or large barrel race within a decent amount of time.

My ex lives down there. If you stick to the larger towns/cities & stay away from the burnt-out oil-boom towns it's great.
