This might be a long shot but has anyone ever traveled to ireland, vacationed there, etc ?

I'm 50% irish and have always wanted to travel there. The future hubby and I are thinking of going there for our honeymoon.

We want to go to a part of Ireland with beautiful countrysides, and of course experience the local pubs!

Any suggestions ? Best time of year to go ? Etc ?

We honeymooned in Ireland and had a wonderful time!! We flew into Shannon the middle of August during the "Rose of Tralee" Festival, we actually didn't even know anything about it but that was neat. We traveled mainly in the Southern part, went to the Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Stone, Jamison Whiskey factory, went to some quaint little towns (one of our favorites Dingle) where we went horse back riding along the coast and on the rocky hills. We stayed in a bunch of neat little castles and B&B's, we even went to a connemara pony show! The people are very nice, we enjoyed the "fish and chips and my husband thought they had the best stew he's ever had. it only rained once while we were there so we got lucky. We rented a GPS but thought Ireland was easy to navigate, not a lot of traffic and courteous drivers, had a lot of roundabouts and you also drive on the opposite ride of the road.

One thing to be aware of, shopping is expensive, especially clothes. Food is also pricy but we figured he it's our honeymoon! If you're interested, I can try and get you the names of places we stayed, every single one was wonderful! One castle we stayed in quite a few presidents had frequented.

I'd def recommend, the flight isn't long either. We want to go back for our 10yr anniversary and maybe try the Northern part.

Oh and I almost forgot, tons of pubs and all had great food! We weren't a big fan of breakfast but it was different and a neat experience.

I went in June of 2013 and it was amazing! Only a couple of rainy days out of a week and a half, the rest were beautiful.  I flew in and out of Dublin, and stayed there a couple of days then drove down to Limerick. I also drove around the Ring of Kerry which was beautiful. We took public transit in Dublin and mostly walked everywhere. It was easy to navigate.

The Cliffs of Moher are a must see. The one thing I am very disappointed I didn't have enough time to do is to go to the Aran Islands. I would make that a priority next time. The Dublin zoo would also be neat to go to. We went to the Guinness factory which has a very good self guided tour so you can take your time or go through it pretty efficiently. There is so much to see there I would love to go back.
