My horse is noticably more comfortable in a hack.. That's all his past owner used on him. Well I've been back and forth with hacks and bits.. He does well in a wonder bit, but I've always thought he would prefer running in a hack since he likes them more, but he just seems to run harder in a bit.

Maybe you feel more comfortable in a bit so you subconciously send him harder? I run in a Ronny Clampitt long shank hack and feel like I have plenty of control and whoa. JMO

It's not a control thing, I'm pretty sure I could run him in a halter and have enough control lol. And my go to but is a Jim Warner hack.. So i've never thought it being my problem? Plus my riding doesn't really change?

I ride in little s hack at home and run in the reinsman lady bug hack...
my mare seems to be less nervous and concentrate more with not having a bit in her mouth....
and I do ride in bits here in there when I work on softening and collection exercises....
good luck, there are all kinds of winning combinations, find what works for you guys the best, and roll out....
