I saw an ad for an OTT horse that I am interested in.  Only a few outs and turned out in June or July and is now being kept up.  He has not been ridden since turned out.  I want to go look at him but would like to see him ridden or at least video of him being ridden.  Is that unreasonable to ask?  He is a solid ApHA.  Any idea of what a reasonable price to pay would be?

I bought my OTT quarter horse about 60 days ago. If he is still at the track you usually cannot ride them there. But I had a jocky ride mine. I see them advertised all the time for various prices. Mine only had 2 starts as well. I paid 4500 for mine but he is Dash TA Fame and Mr.Jess Perry bred. I could not find his equivalent out there with same breeding for that price.

Definitely not a winner on the track.  He has been home 60 to 90 days and turned out.  He is registered paint but has a lot of QH and even a little TB.  First Down Dash on top and bottom but it is 2nd and 3rd generation.

We sent a 2 yr old filly to the track this year.  She was scratched from the futurity she was entered in.  My advice would just be prepared to start from the beginning when your new horse comes home.  You may not have to, but to get the flex and leg we started her ground driving and a lot of control exercises and just put her up for the winter this week and will pick it up again in the spring.  She is out of a daughter of chicks Bedouin and slim and I think taking it slow like this is really helping her keep her mind quiet and will benefit her in time to come.

I think alot depends on who broke her and who trained her.  Mine go home ready to ride and go onto their second career. That said, not all break to actually be broke only to go forward down the track.
Maybe you could post the ad...someone might know the horse or the trainer.

I've gotten a handful from the track. they usually aren't super expensive after their careers if they weren't stellar on the track. Like, you can find something really nice in the 3500-5500 range. Some of them came off really soft and supple, like my black mare Georgia. The Shazoom i got off the track took three weeks before we broke through to have two sides of her body. You wouldn't know now because of all the riding but she was a little tougher to get across to at first. My Strawflyin Buds mare Bunny was off the track and I didnt get her until she had already been converted to a barrel horse... honestly, she has such a good handle you wouldn't know she was ever on the track.
