I feed the Nutrena Senior with Manna Pro Senior Weight Accelerator. You can get the Accelerator at Tractor Supply.

I feed the Original and sometimes the Perform. Love them both. I only have to feed about 3 lbs per day to my hard keeper to keep him looking good and before that I was feeding him 6-8 lbs of expensive feed and even tried top dressing with up to 8 ounces of oil supplements per day and none of that did a thing for him. I am a firm believer in SC.....I believe the prebiotics and probiotics must make the biggest difference because I know there can't be enough calories or carbs or fat in 3 lbs worth of grain to make the difference in weight gain. I believe it SC 100%.

I have fed the Original before, but generally feed the Perform. Like others, I only feed about 3 lbs, give or take depending on the horse, a day. When we are hauling hard, or I notice one is lacking a little, I will add another half pound or so per feeding, and that usually does the trick. I really like the availability and every Nutrena rep I've ever talked to (my parents own a pretty large feed store, so I've met quite a few feed reps) seem very knowledgeable about their products, unlike a few I've met from other companies. No complaints here about SC!

I feed the Nutrena Performance. TSC and Atwoods both carry it.

I have been feeding the Safe Choice original for many years. My horses (of all ages) are fat, slick and happy. I have a very extremely easy keeper that is mostly TB/AQHA Appendix and she gets 3 pounds a day in two feedings I have not had any colic on my place in 6 - 7 years -- not at all since feeding Safe Choice. Be sure to provide loose white salt. I cannot emphasize how shiny my horses' coats are... year-round. I get comments all the time.

I fed original for years...and then when they came out with the special care I did a comparison. ...and...it is exactlythe same nutrient wise...protein and all....except uses different ingredients..its a low starch feed...no corn...ive I've found it does just as great a job on my horses AND they arent raving idiots lol i love the safechoice feeds and feed the mare and foal to my broodies and babies...i would say if you have a lethargic horse you probably want the starch of original to give them quicker energy release however i have not one of that disposition...my horses still have that fire and go that i want...i do also feed alfalfa and free choice coastal hay i also supplement electrolytes and msm and omegahorseshine. ..but i love the special care. ..i usually find it at TSC for about 17 a bag...

hmmmm this has me thinking, bc my little sorrel mare can be a little hot sometimes....

example, hauled her this past friday to arena to make practice run, other horses and riders present, warmed up great trotted thru a couple times then made a run, it was perfect, but then hauled her the next day to a playday race, holy moses she acted like she had never been hauled before, and i have been hauling her for 4yrs, mind u she is maternal grand dtr of flaming jet and paternal grand dtr of flit to kill, she has a huge motor packed in her 14.2 hd body.....she just wants to run, and i mean like race horses run, actually i think she should have been put on the track, thats neither here nor there, just flustered w her at the moment, i ride in a little s hack and run in a ladybug...

i know she can be a 1D horse, but if i let her run "her race" its just all run, but if i control her speed and only roll at about 1/2 its just beautiful....

its almost if she has "stage fright" so to speak, heart rate thru the roof and shaking, she warms up great but when u head down that alley, kate bar the door...

i feed 1lb original in the am and 2lb at night....

should i change up her feed, do u think is making her "hot"????? just curious.....thoughts

as of this weekend i quit her and gonna breed her come spring (excited it will be my 1st baby)

It may be worth a try ...the special care made a huge difference probably most notable on my corona cartel gelding...he was ALL run and go go go....ive fed him many things over the years trying different things...this is what I'll feed him til he is much older n needs senior..he's 14 and ive had him since he was a weanling...anyway it made a huge difference in him he is almost a different horse he is more attentive to what i ask and more focused but he still has plenty run when asked...i also noticed a huge difference in another mare i have she's appendix qtr and all TB race on bottom with cow/run cross on top..she was a little hypo thyroid and chunky ..it's exactly what she needed with the low starch..nutrena did a research study and it showed the feed actually helps them lose fat and keep lean muscle..its on their website...honestly i think its like atkins diet for horses lol...i feed it to my 18 month-2 yr olds too when they come off the mare n foal and so far am keeping them on it as they look perfect they only get about 3.5 lbs each feeding with alfalafa and coastal hay and they also get omegahorseshine too....but i now feed it to everyone....i love that it has zero corn .its safer than most feeds because of the low starch but the horses love the taste and so far i havent had any adverse effects not to mention a great price compared to a lot of other feeds...i wish it had a tad more vitamin e and flax but thats why i supplement with the omegahorseshine as I'm a believer in that out here in west Texas where we have limited to no fresh pasture...anyway I'm happy with it and so glad i tried it !

I feed Safechoice to everything. My horses are fat and healthy from weanling to 27 years old. My riding horses are never hot and they look great. My old man looks better than he every has since Ive owned him.
It was recommended to us by Dr Wes Williams at Lone Star Park after our head horse not looking great on Total Equine. I switched and within two weeks could see the difference.
I also feed Forco and Alfalfa.

This is my old man who will be 27 in March.
