 Has anyone expierenced this?

A teenager that comes to the arena where we practice has a gelding that urinates when he runs.  She runs him on Barrels and Poles at least 10 times per night, at least 3 to 4 times per week.  She thinks to practice, you have to run all the time, no walking or trotting to it.   It is so irritating. You know he is probably hurting but she just keeps running him.   He is not a world beater but, he is the cutest little guy and would be perfect for a child just starting out.  He runs a constant 23 in Poles and does not run a bad Cloverleaf and Straightaway pattern.  He has a heart the size of Texas.

He normally does not urinate at practice but at a show, she kicks so hard her behind comes up out of the saddle and she looks like she is flying! (She is tall)   Someone paid to have his back massaged and she was told not to ride him for 3/4 days afterwards.  The next day, she was running him up and down the road.

I keep telling her he is most likely hurting but, she thinks she knows it all and her parents are never around.  Her mom made the remark, "People say Gh---- is hurting but I just don't know why they say that.  She always places on him".  It looks like when her mother comes to the shows, she would see that no one else's horse urinates on themselves while running.

They have just now started feeding him a 14 o/o grain, so he has picked up some weight.  He is always so thin because they have him on a round bale and grass only,(what little there is), with their cows.

I would say he is probably sore, but he may need his sheath cleaned. I had a gelding do that, I was young dumb an had no parental help, but I was alway asking people at my barn and shows for advice, maybe nicely suggest to the mom to have the vet out beCause it's not normal for a horse to pee n run,If he does this at races I'm sure her friends tell her about it it's pretty obvious to any one watching.

I wish there was a law where these poor animals could be removed from the situation.

Agree.  It's even worse they think they know everything.  Just kills me to see people treating an animal this way.  Especially when he has enough heart to put up with it and keep trying.  Arrrggghh.

I knew a girl like this. Had this little mare who she'd let sit for a couple months, then pull her out a week before a race and run her. She balanced on this horses head and had a severe bit in her. I hated to watch her run... or ride. And this mare just gave Kodi her heart and ran and didn't put up a fuss. Then when Kodi got her next horse, she tried riding the same way: Balanced on her face, yanked her around...needless to say she sold that horse after a battle trying to get her "broke".( which anybody else could get on her with soft hands and knew how to ride ) Such nice mares too...Broke my heart to see that first mare just give her heart to her rider...

There are girls like that in every state, at every show. I had an old friend like that. Won a lot but wasn't a great horsewoman. I was having issues on my horse and her mom thought she could ride better than me so I handed her the reins and said have at it. My horse flipped over on her, broke her ankle, busted her face, and gave her a real blow to her confidence. She never really recovered from it. Pretty sad. Karma comes around and these girls' luck will run out. My friends did. And this girl may literally run her horse into a heart attack and be lucky if she walks away from it. I've seen horses crock mid pattern....smh

Good point! I would tell the mom to have vet out. Some horses don't show pain, an don't make a fuss I'd say the girl needs lessons also

My little mare never once refused, never once got hot, gave her guts every run....Maybe he can only pass a little urine at a time and when he runs he just can't hold it.
